Running boards off, but what is this?

Pulled the running boards off my new to me Cruiser last night. Great improvement! There is a little piece of something or another screwed to the bottom of the frame, more or less underneath the front passenger seat (see photo). What is that thing? It looks innocuous, can it be removed?

yes, remove it. it's some sort of vibration dampening thing... you and your Cruiser wont even notice that it's gone.

It's a vibration damper. Runs fine without it.
