Running board (step panel) loose

Hi, hope someone can help.
I have noticed that one of my running boards is loose and vibrates.
I checked underneath and tried to loosen the bolts that go up vertically towards the running board.
They just turn but don't come off.
When I slip my hand up into where the bolt goes, I can feel the other end of the bolt but no nut.
I am not sure if there should be a nut there or does it thread into the bracket, itself.

it's a sign that your running boards want to come off - and if you don't do it, it seems they'll start doing it for you! hehehe IIRC, there was a nut on the back side of all the bolts when I took mine off. Ace Hardware is a good place to look for metric hardware on the fly. Don't forget some blue loctite so it doesn't happen again.

Any ideas on how I would know what the thread size is likely to be, on the bolt and nut.
( Link to a site with parts specifications, perhaps? )

Not sure of your location, but remove one of the nuts and go to a hardware store and see what it fits. I'm sure it's a standard size.

Yes, must check again.
Neither of the two bolts that I loosened ( towards the back ) had a nut on them. So I wrongly presumed the others would be the same.
( Don't know whether to feel stupid or lazy! )
