PM me if you are interested in a run on the rubicon this winter. I am hoping to pull it off around Xmas or New Years. Hardcore trail rigs only. Bring plenty of wood to burn and warming elixirs. I am making an offer for a prize of your choice at $200 value for a snowman building competition. Serious inquiries only. I hope to organize 5 to 10 rigs.

Dude, I'd do this in a minute if I was located anywhere within 1000 miles of NorCal.

Too bad I am almost 3K away.....

:frown:

You going in from Loon or Tahoe?

It would be hard to go through the Tahoe side you would need a snow cat.

its free its a county road

Some of the locals that live in the Tahoma area do it. They keep the trail packed down. But these guys are running full on tube buggies.

There was some good footage circulating on the interweb last year of a FJ40 going through Little Sluice in like 30 sec.

How much does it cost to go on the rubicon?

good, my wife looked it up and told me it was like a grand.

Probably confusing the trail with the Jeep Jamboree event, it costs and is pricey.

There's a company -- don't recall if their based near the Tahoe side or the Georgetown/Placerville side, but they run a tour through the Rubicon Trail.

Cost is between $1000 and $1600, IIRC. They supply the rig and spot you through. I think they feed you as well.
Seems a bit pricey, but if you consider that you're rolling along in someone else's rig...if you don't have one that's built for the trail, it might not be a bad deal.

If you have your own vehicle and want to drag it across rocks...there's no charge to run the 'con.

I could probably get pretty fearless on the Rubicon in somebody elses rig.

How does the saying go? "Drive it like a rental!":grinpimp:

Mikey,

Check on the Pirates forum. I think Smud closes the trail for motorized vehicles in the Winter. At least the Loon entrance.

Regards

Alvaro

Go in from the Wentworth and aviod a parking ticket and a possible tow. It would suck to get back to Loon and not have your tow rig there.
