A friend and I did the Rubicon on our 80s this weekend.
We left Loon Lake Saturday morning at 9am, by 4pm we were sipping a beer at The Springs.
On our way to the springs, I got call from on the 805 repeater from a coworker who lives in Woodland, CA. After speaking with him, BigJim FJ40Owner, chimed in for a while. Then PismoJim checked in using Ecolink from Pismo Beach, CA.

I had my FT-8800 set to the 805 repeater and 146.460 (Simplex). We used 146.460 to talk between the trucks.

Once we came down Million Dollar drop, we heard a call from Amando. He was at The Springs waiting for us with Ken Hanna, his girlfriend and Drexx.

Sunday morning we all came out via Cadillac Hill.

It was a great weekend. And best of all no carnage.

Regards

Alvaro

How was the weather up there?

Have you used the FT-8800 X-band repeat feature yet?
Two weeks ago we were camping and I set my FT-8900 up so I could join the local 4x4 Ham net with my HT while sitting by the campfire. I can see using the feature a lot since I tend to get into camp early.

The cross band repeat is a feature I've always thought I would like. I currently have the Icom IC-7000 in my 80 so no cross band repeat for me (I'm not sure Icom even has this option on any of their radios).

Perhaps I'll have to add a Yaesu to my rig just for this purpose :)

Dan,

It rained cats and dogs Friday and Saturday. With the right clothing, we managed to stay dry.
Nope, I've not done x-band repeats with my radio. I need to set it up.

Regards

Alvaro

If I was to EVER consider moving to Nor Cal, it would be for this reason ONLY....Run the CON over a weekend. I'm jealous!

Ken Hanna is Amando's girlfriend? I never knew....:flipoff2:

Ba advised the Rubicon UHF to VHF repeater is down for repairs. The plan is for it to be back on the air in less than two weeks. We are hoping it will be on the air year round now.

Brent,

Actually it is my first language - the other one that we use to talk about you is the my second language.

Once an Intern will always be THE intern ....:flipoff2:

LOL - but I was referring to Alvaro's comment about you and Ken being boyfriends! How are you my friend? Long time.

You guys should have come to Death Valley with us, the weather was great down there.
X band is a piece of cake, just set the two sides up and select x-band from the "set" function button menu.
Be sure to have a band plan and read the cautions about frequency selection in the manual.
