I am considering what color to paint my 68' FJ40 and am leaning towards Royal Blue.

However I saw a Jeep (I know, I know) with almost the same color but a little lighter and a metallic version that I really liked (PBJ/MBJ).

From what I hear, it is almost a sacrilege to paint a 40 with an non-stock metallic paint much less a Jeep paint.

I will likely want to sell my rig at some point in the future, even if it is my estate that sells it.
What is your thoughts on these two colors and how they may affect value.

I may be biased for this metallic blue color since it is close to the color of my 85' Toyota truck.
I like the color of my 85' a lot but I wouldn't want to hurt the value of my 40 either.

But it may be time for a change.

Agreed - your call, albeit not an easy one.

I had the same dilemma - original Cygnus white, or the pearl white used on the newer GMC trucks, which is the same off-white with some metallic. I ended up doing the Cygnus, but I was also doing the paintwork myself...the pearl would've been a handful without a good booth. We also were the original owners and still have the window sticker too, which tipped me back to factory a bit as well.

Ours was actually a metallic gray for many years, which actually looked nice. There is a bit more work when doing metallics, though, as the bodywork on these rigs is a bit, er, utilitarian. The "character" (spot welds, etc) shows through a bit more with the metallic.

The truck is awesome!
Thanks! It has gone through several rebuild cycles over the last 20 years. I did a head job, added headers, & put 4:88 gears in the diffs a couple years ago. It runs like a top now.

The paint job still looks good even after 13 years and some new dents and Arizona pin stripes.
This truck was stolen a month after I put the paint job on.

When the cops found it 3 months later it was covered in mud from the top of the roof on down and had a few dents.
The cops found a bag of weed in it, prophylactics, beer cans, and a home made knife .

However they put those Smittybuilt chrome bumpers on.
