The thing with the coil theory that I don't understand is that if I move a malfunctioning coil to a different cylinder, the codes should also move to that cylinder. This is the third different coil that's on #7 right now. The previous coils were moved to cylinders 1 and 5. And I'm still seeing the misfire on 7 and not the others. I haven't tried the brand new coil yet because I was hoping to return it and buy a cheaper one from c Dan (this one was $110 before tax). I can throw it on to see, but the behavior doesn't seem to justify it.

I do have one new piece of information. I pulled codes again today and there was a p1300 - Igniter circuit malfunction. Now the last thing I had done with it was test for spark so I don't know if that is a contributing factor in the code or if it came from something else. I cleared codes again and the only one that has come back was p0307.

I do know this a bad o2 sensor can cuz this issue but it's best u have a scan tool that can read more then a code cuz if your findings are that injector tests good and coils then it maybe some that tell computer what to do like crank sensor or cam or o2 sensor or temp sensor and the list goes on

On an added note make sure u have power at #7 connector and the boot that runs from coil to plug those do go bad and can cuz miss fire

I'm pretty sure I have power at that connector. It's where I tested for spark and saw it. Or is there another way it should be tested?

I replaced the rest of the spark plugs today. As expected, no change.

I've got an appointment to take it to my mechanic next Wednesday. I'll post here when I learn more.

If you have access, do a compression check on that cylinder. Hopefully it's not a burnt valve.

I've been wondering how that would be accomplished on these engines. I have a compression tester, but I've only used it on engines where the spark plug is closer to the surface and I can get a wrench around it. That's not possible here where it takes an extension on the socket to reach down to the plug. Maybe it takes a different style tester than what I have?

The mechanic just finished putting a new fuel injector on that cylinder and said the truck is running well.

He did the same diagnostics that I did, with the addition of a compression test and listening to the injector while it was running. Both of those came out fine, so his next suggestion was to do a bench test of the injector to check out its spray pattern. However, nobody in town does this anymore, so we just had to replace the injector to find out.

I wish I would have seen this earlier. I had the exact same problem 5 years ago. Went thru 2 new coil packs. It ended up that the injector plug was not fully seated, probably from when the previous tech replaced the starter. Pushed it all the way on, and haven't had the problem since. Unfortunately the new injector most likely wasn't needed.

Just wanted to know if replacing the fuel injector took care of the problem?

Checked the fuel injector to make sure it was seated and seems fine.

I been getting the P1300 trouble code. I clear it and it will show up randomly usually in colder weather and during acceleration. The P1121 APPS code came on once and it did affect the acceleration. That code hasn't been on since. I replaced the APPS and the TPS about 2 years ago and this was the first time it has acted up.

will change out the coil on #1 cylinder and see if that will help.

Other options will be igniter circuit or camshaft position sensor.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Yep. It's been great since the injector was replaced.

My mechanic has been pretty good in the past so I'd like to think that in testing he would have checked to make sure it was properly seated.

A can of BG 44k about twice a year should keep the fuel system clean and functioning to spec.

What was the bill??

Sent with my sausage fingers on phone

Including diagnostics, something in the $4-600 range, if I remember correctly. The receipt isn't easily accessible right now. The injector isn't very expensive, but it's a fair bit of work to replace it.
