I was wondering if anybody can explain just what in the hell the computer on my cruiser was thinking when I first disconnected the neg. cable on my battery and then connected back only to see my cruiser idle like s*@t for about 15-20 mins (battery was disconnected for about 5 hours). I know this is a normal procedure for the computer to reset itself or something, but why does this happen? Any explaination?

give it a few days of start up and run times and the computer will adjust to a normal run settings. its the norm

It will not take "days" but it will take several engine start sequences. You can hurry it along by starting the engine and letting it run for about 20-30 seconds and then shut it down and repeat. 4 to 6 passes usually gets it back close.

Do as dan says, it is a curse of the 91-94 model years, but some of these years will do it right the first time, others are more stubborn. later robbie

My 95 does it as well so it's not limited to 91 to 94 I don't think.

it is running back norm know, it did take a couple engine starts, some idling etc.., But I was just wondering why it resets itself? ;)

Because disconnectiong the battery kills the power to the engine ECU memory and it has to re-learn all it forgot.

Wand the saga continues. Same as all above and tried all the voodoo stuff and still goes from 1500-2500rpm, a little less when my foot is on the brake. Took it for several rides and the leg it idle a few minutes. Honestly it was so erratic I turned the truck off as I didn’t want to do any damage. The whole thing is rocking and shaking a lot. Anyone have further thoughts?

Well I think I may have done transmission damage now? I followed the factory procedure for the ECU to eeprogram itself and while holding the brake and having it in D, the transmission overheated. Fluid pissed out of the front of the case and all. And it was brown and boiling hot. About a cup or 2 total max. Have I smoked my
Clutch or first gear?
