For those who have replaced their rotors what brand and series did you go with?
I've had mine turned a few times, they've been great until now 134,000 but I'm doing some other things up front , wheel bearings, lower ball joints, and now would be a good time to replace these units.
Info on what and what to look at would be nice. I've looked at the following - Terrain tamer, stoptech, DBA, OEM - seems as though OEM is the least expensive and set the standard for our cruisers.
I searched the forum and seems as though there no current threads about this subject. looking to make a purchase today or tomorrow.
thank you

I used to buy sexy slotted disks, but realized they don’t help unless you are actually racing.

I prefer OEM disks, but I send them off to 300 below to be cryogenically frozen. I have disks with 200,000 miles on them that are still straiter than Hugh Hefner.

Played with some disks on a old Toyota pickup. Tried all the ones you mentioned except for DBA and they all held the same temperature.

The only thing I’ve ever seen help is the cryo. Really, really helps... when you have hot disks from wheeling, and cross into cold rivers. Damn near eliminates the warping that occurred from that.

I bought them from eBay, cross drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads. After all it’s wear item, so I didn’t care about brand name. They are listed in my build thread. I am happy with performance thus far.

I should add that cross drilling (which racing teams don't use) and slotted reduce surface area, and thus reduce the amount of bitting force.

They make sense in racing where heat starts to matter, but we won’t ever see heat issues unless you hold brakes down Pikes Peak and not use the trans gears.

So it the benefit of slotted really isn’t a benefit for our application, but a hindrance.

How much does it cost to get the cryo treatment?

It’s cheap, $50-75 or so. The last things I cyro’ed were front and rear ring and pinion gears, all the bearings and fasteners. It cost me $110 and that included shipping.

It looks like you can order cryo-treated rotors directly from places like Frozen Rotors, rather than buying a rotor, shipping it out, and then getting it shipped back. That might be cheaper.

@M1911 I just ran the numbers and after shipping is involved its a wash for cost. before shipping the OE rotors are about $233 for 4 plus the $50 to cryo each one and then shipping or 4 already cryo rotors shipped direct from Frozen $500+....i'll pay the difference to not jack around with the shipping part.

Yeah, it seems easier to just order direct from Frozen Rotors (or a similar vendor).

Thanks Guys - I just order all 4 and they will be frozen this week, ship out next Monday and be in hand Wednesday for install.
I appreciate you guys and your comments
thanks

I think Trollhole has a wad of these, new take offs. @Trollhole give him pm. For pricing. I think 4 rotors and pads for around 200 bucks?Mike

@mmcinnis - I just missed you comment and placed my order 5 minutes ago. Hopefully others can get in on that screaming deal though.
thanks for making that known

I use to work with the guys that own Centric parts. They are good peeps and I have been very happy with their cryo rotors, much higher quality then most aftermarket brakes. Can order from Tire Rack at good prices.

You could just get a Brembo kit from Tire Rack. Looks cheap at $4K per axle.
