Unmodified 2001 LX470 with 170K miles. New York truck that I’ve owned for seven+ years in Georgia. Previous owner also had it in Georgia for several years. I’ve driven it about 50K miles. Except for a broken ignition switch, it has been perfectly reliable, and a year ago I took it on a 1000-mile road trip with zero worries. This is a functional LX that runs and drives great, looks good from 10 feet away, and should easily go another 100K miles with reasonable maintenance.

The Good
Bone stock, never been modified or off-roaded. I used it as a third vehicle for Home Depot runs and such. Used it for towing once in my ownership.
Drives well, engine is smooth and responsive, transmission is quiet, no drivetrain clunks
Two Lexus factory keys, both work (mechanically and electronically)
AHC (height control) works perfectly, no leaks or issues.
All four adjustable shocks have been replaced during my ownership with OEM Toyota parts, the two rears when I purchased the truck in 2017, and the two fronts in 2018.
Passes Georgia emissions (just tested in June, 2025). No codes thrown, no check engine light. 2025 is the last year required in Georgia for emissions testing for 2001 vehicles.
Towing kit with receiver and standard wiring.
Brakes are fine, battery is about a year old.
Michelin tires were installed in 2019 but are in good shape, should have at least 5K miles remaining.
Climate system works great, main A/C blows ice cold. Rear A/C blows cool, not cold. Occasional drips under passenger side dash while A/C running.
All exterior lights work, including license plate lights.

The Not-So-Good
There is undercarriage rust from its time in New York.
The rear hatch also has rust, but both top and bottom are fully functional with no leaks or issues. I replaced the rear latch mechanism in 2020.
Truck sat under a hickory tree so it has what looks like minor hail damage, most notably on the hood.
Passenger side window is slow going up and down.
Steering wheel tilts but does not telescope.
Sunroof does not open – it is disconnected at the switch. It drains fine and does not leak. It does work but the seal is loose at the rear seam and I don’t want it to bind. I had it open and cleaned it out less than 2 months ago.
Radio works, but antenna only goes up a couple of inches. I disconnected the whip antenna at the radio so only the window antenna is connected, but it still pulls FM stations fine. Front speakers work fine, rear speakers not so well.
Engine vibration rattle at low speeds sometimes (heat shield).
Has plastic headlamps from later model LX.
Minor oil leaks – one from valve cover and also underneath. Both are minimal, no major oil loss or drips.
Driver’s seat cover is in rough shape. All seat controls and seat heater work fine.

Maintenance Highlights
Before my ownership, timing belt and spark plugs were replaced at 90K miles, per Lexus dealership records (downloaded from Lexus.com).
When I purchased the truck in 2017, at 118K miles I had a local Toyota/Lexus independent shop do the following: Inspect everything, replace a/c cabin filter, transmission fluid, flush and fill radiator, replace coolant hose tees (heater tees), replace AHC suspension fluid, replace transmission fluid, replace differential fluid, and transfer case fluid. Also replaced both rear shocks (one was leaking).
I’ve changed the oil every 10K miles with Mobil 1 synthetic (5W30) and the larger volume Mobil oil filter.
New front shocks in May, 2018, factory Toyota parts, so all four have been replaced.
Replaced rusty spare wheel 2018 and had a decent tire mounted to it.
New battery in 2023
New ignition switch (old one broke) in 2023
One O2 sensor replaced in 2023
New windshield in 2019
Front rotors resurfaced and pads replaced, wheel bearings repacked in 2019 at 145K miles
Four new Michelin tires in 2019. These should have at least 5K more miles in them.
