Roof Racks

Funny but opted to not get one yet after a six month wait I had to accept it with one on it. I was thinking about wind noise and I have it. Does yours without the roof rack?

Mine is very quiet without one. Especially since it basically a box

I did see one that was apparently aftermarket and did not extend so far forward. Not that it would have much of an effect on wind noise.

I have an ARB. I took off my stock roof rack, sold it, anb bought this. I don't regret it one bit. I love that it covers the whole roof, is flat, and is very sturdy.

Mine is in the front, and BMTHikers is in the back. This picture really makes it easy to see the two together.

Gobi Ranger on my FJC. Very satisfied with the rack. Super quality and SOOOO much better then the stock rack.

What is the gobi made of? Isn't the curvature of the gobi a pain for loading anything?

I had heard that the gobi used conduit (thin wall) rather than pipe (thick wall) for the tubing. Although that might have been Wilderness.

The Arb is ~500 cheaper than the gobi, right?

The Gobi racks are very strong and they use 16 gauge steel tube. The frame is made up of 1" tube and there are two 1 1/8" cross members for attachments (i.e. bike, skis, kayak, etc.). The mounting brackets are 3/4" laser cut and formed. I like to think of the rack as strong enough, but also light and functional. As for loading things, I have had no problem loading items on the rack. I rather like the way the rack follows the contour of the roof.
