here's the deal... I want to put a cargo basket on the roof, but I do not want to add crossbars on the OEM rack then the basket on top. That's just too dang tall for me. My question is... does anyone make something that allows you to mount a basket in between the factory rails by attaching into the channel of the side rails? Essentially what I want to accomplish is removing the OEM crossbars and setting a basket in its place that mounts at the same mounting point.

Is this possible?

One of the new racks, Baja?, was using the OEM side rails with plates they'd made - slick set up. I think all of the major rack makers have an adapter that wraps around the OEM cross bars and then their items attach to it.

does anyone have more info on this? I'm trying to avoid having to mount on top of any crossbars... especially on top of crossbars that are on top of the OEM siderails.

keep in mind the OEM setup is not rated for very high loads. Probably more to do with the cross bars than the side tracks but still. Warrants an inspection of the side rail mounting scheme, I would think. Might be best to connect directly to the roof for critical apps.

African outback makes one for the 100 too. Try special ordering through Sierra expeditions.

My guess would be half that.
