Roof rack question?

Just got a 1998 4Runner Limited. I want to put a Thule/Yakima/Saris roof rack on it. Both places I asked said the deciding factor was whether I have a factory roof rack or not. On the roof, I have two pieces of black plastic, about an 1" wide and 4 feet long, held down by Torx screws every 8 inches or so, one on either side of the roof behind the moonroof. So my question is, did this truck used to have a factory roof rack and I want the kit for with or without factory roof rack? Thanks, Luke

Talked to Cruiser Dan at American Toyota... he clarified it for me.

Yakima and Thule typically make adaptors to mount their mounts to the factory rack. It sounds like you have the channels for the factory rack, but no rack. Wrecking yard....
