I know I want a roof rack for my 80 but I am not sure what one I want. Is there anyone local sporting a roof rack? And will you be at the next meeting?

"Cook" has one on his 80 but i dont know what type it is. The only thing Ive heard from peple that have them is that they create alot of noise from the wind turbulence just in case if that kind of thing bothers you.

MAybe a "search" function on the 80 forum may get you some pictures and ideas.

I have looked for hours and seen many pictures. We had a Yakima rack on the wife's wagon for a long time so I know the wind noise is a necessary evil.

Sorry for the late response, life has been busier than usual.
I have a rack from Mule Equipment. You will need to look them up on the mud board. However, it looks like the old web site is down. The company was run from Kalib’s garage. I liked the idea of going with a startup company, but in hindsight…. If I was looking now, I would take a hard look at Baja racks. One of the primary reasons for going with a little bigger company is that they will have accessories, such as a wind deflector! Yes, noise is a problem with any rack. But having purchased a rack from a company that did not offer a deflector I can tell you I will not make, or recommend, that mistake again. It looks like I’m going to have to break out my mad fabricating skills and my credit card and hire someone to make one up for me.:o

P.S., this recommendation is not based upon personal experience, but rather research on the web and the mud board from people who have the Baja product and speak/post highly about it. Also, I’m assuming you don’t have stupid money to through at one of the $1500+ products or else you would have already picked one up. The expedition portal is chuck full of reviews for rack, and the high end racks in particular. Good luck.
Cook.

I've got the ARB 3/4 length rack with the wind deflector. Very little noise.

I will be at the next meeting. I have a full length defender with lights. It is noisy but..........

I would think a wind delflector could be easily made from a piece of sheet metal. Assuming you have greater skills than me:hillbilly:

Thanks for the input. I am down to two racks and I'm really torn between them. First I should say this the racks main function for me will be awning mount. The extra storage will be a nice plus. I like the bajarack for the price, seems like and ARB but without all the import shipping and such. Second and higher up on my list is the front runner, with this rack I should still be able to fit in the garage. Also thanks for pointing my to expedition portal, there was some good info that I missed before.
