Hi,
Thinking of putting a roof basket on my BJ74. But I've heard of problems mounting one to the FRP Top in terms of weight bearing strength and shear strength in hauling gear (which for me includes, skis, kayaks, climbing gear etc...).
Has anyone done this and if so, what problems, if any, or solutions did you come up with?
And which rack did you go with?
Cheers,

The one I've seen in Japan mounts to the rain gutters on the front/passenger side gutters and above the tail gate. Is that what you were thinking of?

If so, I wouldn't think you would have too much problems unless you mount too much stuff up there.

Good luck!

i was in a 4wd shop in oz a couple of weeks ago and I asked if Rhino racks had any roof rack solutions for a mwb.
The shop owner rang head office for Rhino in Melbourne and got the general manager.
They are close to releasing something that screws into the FRP top.
Im not too happy with that set up and the shop owner agreed with me.
My greatest concern is the fastening holes will elongate and get leaks and maybe allow the whole lot to come loose.
Normally fibreglass that has bolts or screws penetrating it has reinforced sections like a boat hull
Even if you dont put heavy loads up there ,I believe wind resistance, vibration and the forces from stop start driving will all take their toll.
I maybe proven wrong but I will let someone else be the test monkey.

The only roof rack I have seen on a middy thaty I would use was one that was supported on the front gutters in 4 places and had alloy tube fixed to the rear bumper supporting the rear of the rack.
This could also be problematic as it may partially obscure the rear tail lights
