I was thinking about the cracks I have been reading about the earlier 80's. Has anybody installed a little bit of re-enforcement? I was thinking it would be pretty cool if it could take a roll and we could all walk away. :) For the most part it is a daily driver but I am going to wheel it pretty good 30 day's a year. It is a 94 and I am thinking a 2.5 heavy lift with something like 295 nitto's--I would like to run 315's but I'm not sure if that will fly--I have talked with some great people on this board and they steer me in opposite directions. I run it up river beds, through wet sand, and occasionaly mud--also we run up in the jungle in the Sirra Madre Mountans. Somedays the road is washed out and we have to decend some pretty steep sideways hills. I was thinking of something with 3 or 4 supports from top to bottom stretching from mid trunk to maybe the winshield or at least the C pillar. Any thoughts? I did a search and didn't see much on 80's and roll bars.....

I think others have tried the rollbar approach before. I know Christo has one in his 80-buggy, but I remember him saying it was #^#%ing hard to install. You can bend all the pipe but have to be perfect, and it's many, many bends. I think Christo went down through the vent area (furthest outside vents on the dash), which took tons of work he said, and the vents don't work now IIRC.

I too have thought about this but in reality there are not alot of vehicles that would be safer in a rollover than the stock Cruiser anyway (atleast comparing to other stock vehicles) IMO. So it's a great idea, but maybe overkill.

I would definetly go with 315 tires, don't let the bastards get you down!! :D

Good Luck...

You will walk away from some/most rolls. PHAEDRUS (aka fAvE) rolled one and Wrench rolled one. Wrench retrofitted a roll cage in his. Search for pics.
