can someone summarize how to avoid rodents hiding in the spot. I put the mouse traps and baits under my truck and around that area. any other concrete suggestion would help.

The most interesting things about this video are that it’s the same 200 with the bad head gasket, and my coolant valley fix was still holding strong when he took this apart.

about that, I dont like the way he crawl over and puts his knees on top of radiator as he is doing the intake etc. we know its a weak spot and prone to crack, putting so much pressure there is asking for another crack down the line may be?

If I ever have to do the coolant valley again, I’m going to spring for a topside creeper.

If I ever have stupid money I'm going to spring for a garage lift that can also drop the vehicle 2-3' down into a pit so it's easy to access the engine bay and roof :-)

Elimination of pests is the best (and probably hardest) approach. Lot's of folks use peppermint oil to deter rodents, but it's not going to last long near a hot engine...might be enough to get them to move on to the next car or act as a deterrent if sprayed around the engine bay. There are ultrasonic deterrent devices too, that you can leave in your garage and even ones that are automotive (12V specific).

I think its not that easy, especially if you have a valley plate leak. that smell of coolant and warmth will be a perfect spot for rodents to live. I saw rodent activity inside of my car and its chipped away paper/cushion crumbs under the glovebox area. Is was entering from the ac outdoor vent and eating all leftover chips and candies on floor I think. Putting baits, traps and all didn't catch anything.

Topside creepers are the bomb and are stupid cheap to buy. I paid just over $200 shipped about 10 years ago. Clears the bull bar on the Excursion with room to spare.

I did this all the time with my lift (previous house). Had to remove the wheels, but so worth it!
BTW, if you have the garage height (I know few do; I don’t in my current garage), lifts are not crazy expensive. Mine was under $3k installed (Challenger E10) … 15 years ago lol
