anyone used these ..i do mean use not have ..my son is a engineer he looked at them and said the first hard hit and my rocker panels will be crushed and why would you want them mounted to your body ..you have to drill holes through the pinch weld ..another crush point . I have not mounted them yet.

Are these what you are referring to? I can't seem to find installation instructions and they have a few different models. They appear to frame mount as well as attach at the pinch weld on the body. According to their info, the pinch weld mount supposedly helps distribute the force from impact and increases strength.

I don't have any experience but took some time to research a bit if these are the same.

They do mount to the frame at three points with back plates ..they really make them sound good and have a lifetime warranty but i would rather crush the slider than my cruiser I got the super sliders... 2002 LC

I'm a little confused here...

It sounds like you're describing LandCruiserPhil's Rock Rails:
But your thread title seems to indicate you're talking about these:

A vehicle's body and frame flex independently of each other. Sliders that tie them both together seems like a bad idea to me, but I'm far from an expert. I would imagine there is good reason TT, Slee and other that know their business mount their sliders to the frame.

I cut the tabs off and just used the frame rail mounts. The body mount made no sense to me. The body also flexes differently from the frame because of the body mounts

Pretty simple: just don’t use the pinch weld mounts, and only use the frame mounts.

Not simple at all ..I got these to protect my LC not for looks , they will see plenty of rocks the problem is the arms wont hold up they will bend ,and push the slider into the quarter panel, i guess that's why they also mount to the body to stop the flex , the BBB has a lot of complaints on them

Just came back from a VERY well known 4 wheel drive fabricator , they have two sets in their scrap pile hey went as far as to get a sledgehammer and show me what would happen JUNK! !

Yes the rocky road sliders I gave 800 bucks for .

I have super sliders in my garage haven't installed yet
I would not unless you are going for looks ...they do look good !

You are 100% correct first thing my son pointed out .

I gave 849 with shipping if anyone wants them for 600 and you can have them im not even going to contact Rocky Road Outfitters
about them..they do look good. They will not hold up for my purpose Unboxed only never left my living room !

Rocky Road started making their sliders for XJ Cherokees....which are unibody, so it makes a lot more sense to attach to the pinch seam in that case. I guess they just kept the same design idea?

I am curious what the "sledgehammer test" revealed to be junk though. Whether I agree with the design or not, the ones I've seen have been well-made and strong.

They're supposed to bolt to the frame, and to the body's pinch weld?

If this is correct, I'd agree with your son, that this is a "very bad idea".

I've never seen/heard anything like that, but my experience is limited to the Slee and Metaltech sliders (on the 80 & 100 series platforms).

He hit the round tube ( slider )with a 20 pound hammer and it bent the arm that goes to the frame i wish i had recorded it that was one hit I can only imagine what would have happened if it was on the vehicle and I went up against a rock with momentum I would not have rocker panels now

and it was only laying on the ground

I will probably just replace 1x1 tube with 2x2 hitch steel myself
They told me you should at least be able to put your hand between slider and your panel so it want flex into your rockers just a FYI ,you do have a good idea there.

The guys i went to suggested White Knuckle and Metal Tech ...they (I want say there name) ..only made sliders for the 200 at this time.

They are junk!!!!! I have them on my 1999 LX and it is the worst mod I have made. Powder coating is junk, mounting is junk, owner is really hard to deal with. Would not recommend at all.
