Does anyone experience steering wheel shimmy/irregular shaking on the highway. There is no correlation to any given speed.

Just seems like for generally such a well built vehicle it is highly susceptile to a high amount of road feed back on crappy stretches of highway.

Preventative maintenance is all up to par. I suppose could be a slight cause from running a 295/75r16 tire. I have just never experienced such a potential for it on any other vehicles equipped with this size of tire.
 
Driving in Vietnam on (probably) the worst roads, I do not recognize this. Must be something specific for your vehicle. Or maybe just the difference between IFS and SAS?

Check the steering rack bushings, or just replace them. Also check for play in tie rods.
That stuff is all new. I've felt that it has always kind of been like that. I probably need to check the balance of the tires. Think I have a couple wheels that are just barely bent, but will balance perfectly.
 
I'm noticing that when it does happen, it is usually in sink with the transfer case lever. Coasting down hill on hwy with cruise control on it doesn't generally do but it will on flat stretches, and then sometimes it does it going down hill. Up hill it is good. Generally it happens 60+ mph. If it is a ujoint, is there anything I should look for besides movement at the different joints?

Bearings/tension is good in the front hubs. Just checked them yesterday and put in some fresh grease. I always grease the ujoints when I change the oil.
 
Steering wheel, transfer case shift lever is doing it simultaneously when it does happen.
 
If mine is anything to go by then the vibration issue was an accumalation of issues, but the only difference is that my steering wheel was always rock solid. I would consentrate on tires/wheels first, check for any irregular wear on tire tread, get the wheels road force balanced, check the hubs are flat where they mate with the wheel as these can get deformed when rotors are changed. Make sure the power steering fluid is clean and doesn't have air in it.
 
Thank you for everyone's input. Today while I was waiting to get the tires road force balanced. I had access to a lift and went back through all the drivetrain. U joints were all good, pinion flanges were all tight backlash was good front and rear. Motor, transmission and transfer case mounts were good. I had been worried about the front uca/lca bushings because I'm at the mileage where they start to go, but after rebuilding the front differential and then new steering rack/outer tie rods, going through all of that recently I was fairly confident that was not the case. Anyway I used a 8' long 2" cheater pipe under the tires, turned at various angles and with two guys watching the suspension arms and ball joints cycled the suspension up and down a few inches and everything checked out on both sides.
Where I currently reside there isn't any hunter road force machines, however I'm in Columbia, SC for a short stay and went to a Firestone store, which is who I purchased my k02's from(which are almost $100.00 cheaper than even tread depot for 295's) and they rebalanced all of them.

So far so good, surprisingly smooth, even cruising at 80mph. Normally on my daily commute when I'm home I don't ever go above 55/60 because of the highway's I travel. Quite impressed with the road force balance, has always made since, just wasn't available where I was when I purchased them.
