Hey folks!

Recently picked up a double cab 2001 HZJ79 and I’m having some issues finding rims. The stock rims on the truck are split rims and I’ll be replacing them. I would be just as happy to run steelies but can’t find anything in the 5x150 with a 0 offset in a 16” rim. Does anyone have the part number for the OEM 16s?

Is anyone running 17” on their 70? Wondering if a 255/80/17r AT tire would work with a 2” OME lift. Thoughts? Clearance issues?

Currently looking at the fifteen52 Analog HD however it is only made in a 17” for the 5x150 pattern.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

Cheers!

I know folks who throw in 255/86r16’s on stock suspension and have no issues. 255/80r17 is almost an identical size it appears (besides the sidewall obviously) so i think you will be fine. I personally also rock Analog HD’s on my 75 and theyre great - be aware that I think their wheel widths are 8” which is probably the widest recommended width for a tall/skinny tire.

bottom line, get rid of the split rims haha. I too will be going with 255’s once my current tires wear out.

Thanks MC!

I have spent more time on that tire size comparison website than I’d like to admit. Great tool!

The HD Analog is a beautiful wheel! Pricy but buy once, cry once hopefully.

I prefer the Jaos Victron Tribe wheels but you will cry a little harder! I see the OE 16 5x150 steel wheels in the classifieds here and there. Search for LC79 body importers... they often have the wheels too.

Those would be my ultimate choice but 670$CAD per rim…. I’ll keep my eyes on the classifieds. I have a bit of time as the Analog HD rims are back ordered till November.

Price is for 4, shipped to somewhere in CAN.

Oooph. Now I have decisions to make. I just found some Jaos Victron Tribes for 1300USD in Japan. Just unsure of shipping etc.

Steelies are also a good choice. Pricy for a steelie set but at least the quality is there. Thx!

2001 hzj79 dual cab ? Is this a conversion done by a company as I thought that toyota only made these after the wide nose model came out after 05 or 06 ?

It is a 2001 HZJ79 Duel cab - Ex fire from Japan. Not many made. I’ve been watching auctions for 7 months waiting. Will be a bit of a project!

@janyyc Thanks! I am okay with them being unpainted as ill likely powdercoat. Hard to unsee those Jaos Tribe Victrons though. Those are the 42610-60330 (not splits)? Priced out with shipping to my door the OEM will run about 1200$.

I believe this would be either:
42611-60D20
Or
42611-60D30
Was never able to make out a difference between the two!

I think there are already a bunch of these in the US and most of them are for sale , does the vin says hzj79 ? It always looked more to me that Toyota used 77 series to start these builds . Going to ditch that high roof and put a regular roof on it ? A few folks already have done that using a new 79 roof on it.

What you are seeing in the US is the HZJ75 version of the double cab not the HZJ79.

My vin most definitely says HZJ79 --

The HZJ79 were built and offered from 99-2004. Major changes from the 75 to the 79 are: coil springs in the front +live front axle, longer rear leaf springs, 5 bolt wheels instead of 6, redesigned steering wheel, updated front indicators, grill, and more importantly a longer wheel base.

You'll notice on the HZJ75 that behind the rear passenger doors there is a cut away on the lower panel. The 79 has no cut away. That is the easy way to distinguish the two models.

As for the roof I am undecided. There seems to be a big push to convert the roof to the standard roof height. Will see when it arrives.

ill be sure to post more pictures and start a build thread. The difference will be pretty evident.

Additionally most of the HZJ75's didnt come with power steering. The HZJ79 does which was a huge reason for me waiting for the 79.

Depends on the market as every hzj7x in Europe came with power steering , the 79 crew cab in Europe and the rest of the world apparently came only out in 06 or 07 with the wide nose and that cab seems to be very different again from yours. Funny how Toyota makes some models only for the JDM market.

It is very strange I agree. Europe compared to Japan seem to have very different variants. Not sure if this truck was strictly built for the Japanese government for their fire service fleets. I have not seen any other double cab varients in the JDM world with the OEM stock rear rub and duel cab.
