Just got under my newly purchased '23 GX460 to REALLY check things out. Bought from an individual with 24,500 miles. Looked pristine when I first inspected. I must say I just looked for oil, transmission fluid, gear oil, rust, etc. With only 24K I never even considered looking at the shocks. Well, last night I was changing my oil and noticed the right front shock was covered in black oily gunk on the body and the coil. CV boots are still intact. I am assuming I have a bad shock?

I know I have a 48 month/50K mile basic warranty. Are shocks covered under the basic warranty with only 24K?

They are most likely not covered. Since its on the right side, good news is it is probably not KDSS fluid.

You'd need to review the warranty coverage book for exclusions. A shock could very well be considered a "wear" item, however I will say that only 24K on a OEM Toyota shock is pathetic. They should last 75K plus before blowing out.
