Hey All,
I looked around and haven't found anyone running any of Rhino Rack's steel mesh products but thought I'd ask anyway. I'm building a quick, ultimately temporary roof setup out of things I own, namely four 65" Thule load bars on Gamiviti towers, and I ran across Rhino's steel mesh platforms and baskets, both looked interesting.
I'll have a stack of surfboards in a bag on one side of my bars and thought either the skinny platform or basket might work well beside it. (My awning will ride on the edge of the bars on ARB mounts.)
I also have a Thule pulse box from my last build, it worked fine but that was a full size AWD camper van and I could fit things in front of and beside it. The Pulse is a little short and fat. I'd like to have a place to put a WaterPort and a few other odds and ends for longer trips.

If anyone has had any experience with the Rhino mesh definitely chime in, if not I might just be a guinea pig and order one up since they're somewhat affordable. I'll be running it up and down the east coast through hurricane season before I head west; shouldn't see too much bump and shake, which is the only concern I'd have for mesh. I'll be off road but mainly sand unless I get into something weird in Canada, haven't been up there yet.

Thanks!
Bryan

I used to sell truck accessories out here in Utah for a local wholesale distributer and we always had really good luck with the Rhino Rack products. I'm unfamiliar with the mesh products but I really like their stuff.

If you want to save some cash look at this option

Wire Machine Guard Panel - 2 x 5' H-5608 - Uline

There is also a manufacturer of clothing grid wall in LA that makes these very HD grid wall sections- welded wire surrounded by 1x1 square tube- a 2'x7' section is like $35. I actually have a few pieces of it and can say it would be every bit as stout as the rhino grid

Yeah I trust them as a company and I know how well made their racks are, I'd have no problem ordering from them I've just never heard anything about the mesh.

Damn, I do like ULINE, all my packaging gear comes from them, didn't know they made those. Tempted to try it, hard not to for 60 bucks. Thanks for the link.

Looks like ULINE has gridwall too just no surrounds.

Did you end up getting the Rhino Mesh?

I ask because I have the exact same set up (Gamiviti towers and three Thule x-bars) - see attached photo.

Been think of the mesh Rhino product vs the Pioneer tray

Any luck with it?

Not sure how committed you are to the mesh or how small your stuff will be, but my buddy made a custom webbed 'basket' that doubles as a hammock for his jeep for only $35:

looks safari-cool too

I actually still have the Rhino in my Amazon cart and it was fully the plan but I'm putting the 100 up for sale. I did mount an ARB 2500 on the bars though and that worked great using ARB's gusseted brackets. Wish I had info the mesh for ya. I'm going to switch to a Tacoma and my plan is to still try the mesh for what it's worth.

Much thanks for the reply!

Have fun with the Taco!
Definitely post shots if you get some mesh. Just a heads up if you have Amazon Prime some of them qualify, plus, free shipping for returns, pretty good deal to try it out. Thanks re: Taco, hope to find a decent one here on the coast without going new/certified!
