I have a 98 LC with about 77k miles on it. And I'm planning to make it to 200k before I even look at a new truck. So I'm doing everything I can think of to stave off the ravages of time. I was wondering, has anyone out there used Rhino Lining or Line-X on their fender wells? It seems like a good idea -- to fend off rust while cutting down on tire noise -- but I was wondering if there is a downside (other than having to scrape off the thick, lumpy Toyota undercoating that seems to be a magnet for red mud.)
Thanks for any advice.

I have a '91 in the rust-belt with 195K miles on it and have no signs of corrosion in my fender-wells --

I think it would make doing something like a antenna replacement/repair impossible with all the clips encapsulated in that stuff. If you ever had to take it to a body shop for any thing in would be more labor intensive, thus costing you more money.
I don’t think it would be a benefit either.

i'm not a 100 series guy, but there was a huge thread about this last week over in the 60/62 section. give her a whirl. if you don't already have something going on down there i would recommend you use some type of rust inhibiting paint like por 15 or something on the inside of the panels, since that is where they tend to start to rot. anyway here's the thread.

Atleast around here (Colorado) where it's dry, you don't have to stop rust, because it rarely starts. Normally you just have to get mud off to keep it from rusting...I've always been told to just wash it alot, lots of water, since water evaporates it won't cause rust, but having mud on there where the water can't evaporate will.

I'd just spray the wheel wells out really good with lots of water, there are always little places mud likes to stay...infact if you are looking for something to get to help you, buy a pressure washer if you don't already have one, they rock and you're more inclined to use it then, versus driving to a carwash.
