Also,

Georg @orangefj45 is the best.
Yes George @orangefj45 has been great with my 4:1 gears going in my split case.

Got the T-Case side all buttoned up and mostly clean, hopefully can stab it back tonight or tomorrow.

Did come across something that is good food for thought though, engaging your 4 wheel drive on a regular basis is a a good idea to keep things lubed up.
The is the bearing in the extension housing and I think this is from when the truck sat for awhile.

I think Toyota actually calls for putting it in 4 wheel drive monthly

Good to do or at least have the hubs locked. The transfer case always has power going through it so the gears are always moving.
In cold country the hubs may be locked from fall to spring.

I was wondering about this. Is there a downside to leaving the hubs locked?

Just more wear and maybe a loss of fuel mileage I never noticed a difference. But keeps things lubed up. I almost put drive flanges on the front instead of the Asian hubs but with the LockRights in the the axles turns would have been hard on the drive train in 4wd.
Living where I have and do conditions can change fast and 4wd shifting on the fly is not do able if the hubs are not locked. That is why I have my hubs locked most of the year. I put over 100K on mine and when I rebuilt the drive train there was not much wear. The front differential had a rust line starting at the oil level because it sat for years. There was wear between the input gear and shaft from shifting gears and getting in and out of the throttle so I was not surprised by that.

If you leave the pavement it is good practice to stop and get out and lock the hubs just in case you get into some sticky situations.

My RAM has a CAD so once I switch to 4wd the CAD engages the long side of the axle.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking

I make an effort to use 4 wheel drive (and in the case of my wife’s car, diff lock) several times a year whether I need to or not just to stir stuff up.

Seeing as how this truck sat from about 1992 to 2020, it is no surprise that there was evidence of rust and condensation driven decay.

Jimmy said 40’s tend to need to be stirred up more than 60 series trucks. Not sure why, but there is a reason why it’s WWJD.

In other news, I’ll need to accept defeat on my one week down rule. I have to leave town for a week tomorrow evening, my wife had surgery today and I have several other work obligations that got in my way. Thought I’d get 7 solid days at this project but it turned into about 4 partial.

Plus the oil pan got the best of me. Just couldn’t get it off. I’ll be back on the 27th and will hit it hard then. Most everything is ready to go back, it’s just the oil pan gasket and RMS that are lingering.

Pictures because, pictures.

Trying to ID if someone has been in here before.

This is my only real clue.

Says, “Tombo” and has what looks like a dragonfly on it.

Anyone know?

@orangefj45
@65swb45

If one of you don’t know no one does.

I have seen this brand in virgin teardowns before.

FWIW I can see the boxes with your replacement parts in your previous post as well, and I will mention again that I find it disappointing how readily people think of me to answer tech, and how readily I am passed over as a parts resource.☹️

Mark, thank you for the tech reply, your expertise is greatly appreciated here on mud.

As for parts, I have a partial trade deal with the vendor I got these parts from so that’s the easy answer there. The harder answer would be better talked about person to person.

I have purchased from you though and will in the future.

@RevISK think working days not calendars days. You are in 4 of 7. Carry on.

Can I use that calculation for my bills?

@65swb45 you need to modernize. Adapt or die. Fundamental to any business surviving. Your methods are archaic. At the thought of buying something from you, no one wants to leave a message on a land line. No one wants to buy a minimum of $100. This forum is about generosity. Share what we know, without an agenda. Other parts sellers are much easier to work with. Learn and adapt.

@RevISK please feel free to have the moderator remove my comment from your thread.

I believe in the sanctity of our first amendment, for everyone.

Carry on…

My cousin is going through expansion difficulties. She been around in her business for 70 years. My aunt started it in the 1950’s. With so many people going online for purchases, she’s finally going to get a website for orders. She’s told me people don’t want to chat for phone orders.. they want to click, pay and run. For me, that’s why I have shopped at Amazon for over 15 years. Christmas, birthdays, whatever…click…done and I am onto something else

“no one wants to leave a message on a land line. No one wants..”
These are good examples of “alleged certainty fallacies” “everyone thinks”, “no one wants” and are never true. The opposite of all phone service is something like “rock auto” where I seem to get the wrong part 50% of the time. To each their own.. but not “no one” or “everyone”. Just sayin. : )

My phone is VOI, when it works correctly. Online ordering is way easier and faster for me as it doesn't use google voice. Trying to understand a thick accent India customer service agent is challenging, 65 years of gun fire and a little less of rock and roll doesn't help either.
