So just picked this up from my good friend Dave. He has loved this truck for many years now but now it's my turn to continue the love. His original build thread Build - Dave's 80 - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/daves-80.1069472/. Will update this thread as things change. But for now love having an 80 back in the stable.

Well congrats to you @Land Shark and what's Dave planning on now? I know that this rig has an extensive build and travel history, glad to know that it's still in good hands!

Now we'll need to see which of your rigs shows up at Fall Crawl this year!

ARB twin installed for now in the engine bay. May be thinking it needs to go elsewhere but for now... Also, started my drawer and fridge slide build. A little quick one not camp trip.

Eric, Not at liberty to share Daves plans but will tell you that it will be epic!

Fall Crawl rig will likely be the 40. Plan is to run the 80 out to SAS10 though.

Quick little install of the @nakman dash accessory shelf. Let me tell ya. This thing is beef! Easy install and very strong. Added an ALpine single din, because, I like a volume knob ;). Not done yet but usable for now.

I have to ask, what are the added benefits of running the diesel oil in a gas motor?

I used to run Mobil Delvac diesel oil in my old Subaru Wrx and STI.. it retained it's properties really well under heat, and diesel oils generally have more detergents in them so keep the motor nice and clean. The guy who tuned my cars recommended it.. he built and raced his own rally cars, so has torn down hundreds if not thousands of engines.. he said that oil consistently showed the least amount of wear.. though in an FZ, I don't know what benefit there would be without ongoing oil testing.

Well you sold me when you mentioned heat. Arizona can be a hot one during the summer and under hood temps can be pretty high too.

A side benefit is it comes in 4qt jugs instead of 5. Dump two full jugs in and you’re done. It’s also consistently cheaper than other name brand oils.

I will admit that I am not an oil expert or even super knowledgeable about it. Years ago when I had my first 80 it was the buzz to use. This time around it was what was already being used by PO. Additionally, my good buddy @matzell recommended it and thats what he runs in his 80

At O'Reilly's they have a deal going on buy one gallon of Royal Purple and get a $15 gift card, so if I have to buy 2 I am getting one for free basically.

I now Identify as a Pre-95 cruiser 😳

Took the Ole Girl up to Western PA for a long weekend. Was able to get 300 miles out of a tank of fuel. Found a waterfall and an old covered bridge while we were there. Also, came across some interesting local history.
