This is the kind of feedback i was looking for...i am going to give the OEM rebuild a try today, if it doesn't work i have another option.

I just completed a thorough shakedown of my landtank modded blue clutch. Before the clutch, on hot days, climing steep freeway hills in 100 degree desert heat I was getting up to 225 degrees. Now I rarely break 200, with 209 being the very hottest I've been able to get it. I'm satisfied. I'm puttin a pusher on just to keep the AC temps down a little.

Snake- was your OEM that you replaced older...from what i am hearing from Tools and others that the OEM might be as good if not better than the Blue if it has a high enough viscosity oil in it?

Thanks.

Everything as far as temp and drivability was exactly the same after I replaced the OEM with a blue clutch :meh:

The only change I noticed was the roar on startup (OEM didn't have it)

My wife's LX has a later style blue hub w/ 10K cst fluid. It's adjusted using LT's procedure. A couple weeks ago we had unusually high temps (over 100*) here. With the a/c on and stuck in traffic, the highest reading I ever got was 193* Temps have come down and the highest it ever gets is 184*. Cruising around town or on the highway temps are between 179-182. Before changing out the fan clutch, temps were 184-188.

My '97 has an older style blue hub also w/ 10K fluid and adjusted LT style. I'm having issues w/ it though because the roar never goes away and it stays engaged all the time. During the 100* temps I got a high of 215*. I'm thinking my radiator is clogged though. My water temp is pretty much 190 and it does not matter if it's city or highway. It'll creep up to 195 if I'm stuck at a light. I got an older style radiator on order and will probably adjust the clutch back to stock to see if it'll disengage.

My new model blue hub clutch is currently filled with 50ml of 7000cst silicone, with the timing set to ~105F. I originally had it tuned at 95 with 7000cst, however I found that the fan was engaging too early. It was almost always on, and I could hear the fan pulling (lots of) air every time I accelerated. It sounded like I was driving a dump truck!

Even now, with the current set up (105F and 7000) I think the fan is engaging too early/strong, as my coolant temperatures are staying between 177-186, with outside ambient temperatures ranging from 60-85F. I'm thinking that the coolant temperatures are too low, as the thermostat is only supposed to start opening around 176-183F. So it seems that my fan is fighting with the thermostat.

At this point I'm debating whether to change the timing to start opening the valve at a higher temperature (115?) or to swap the fluid for a lower viscosity (5000cst?). Any ideas?
