Restrictor in turbo oil feed?

Yes it is needed it lowers the oil pressure that is getting to the turbo shaft .


I did run a turbo without one and lets just say it was smokey ...



The turbo shaft dose not need a lot of oil flow over it .
 
It depends on your setup. In many the oil supply line for the turbo creates enough restriction that no-more is necessary.
If you are worried, then a check at idle of the oil flowing out of the turbo will let you know if too much oil is being delivered at too high a pressure.
 
restrictor is basically used as a oil pressure regulator, if the oil pressure is high the oil will pass through the seals and will cause smoke.
The restrictor helps in lowering the oil pressure and preventing oil to cause smoke therefore it is necessary to have restrictor.

Oil feed is through a banjo bolt which is supplied with the turbo. It too has the restriction in it.
I'll just ditch the banjo bit, not the bolt, and get another one with an -04AN connection on it and run an -04AN line for the oil feed to it.
That should work beautifully I reckon.
