Checking in from Oklahoma with a newly rescued 40th Anniversary with 105k on it. It's in great shape. (pics coming soon) It has the front damage multiplying brush guard with lights and tail-light protectors. it also has had the hood replaced (hail damage) and had a new hood w/ non-func hood scoop installed. It doesn't have the diff switch so I need to look into fixing that :)

Had a few questions about mods.

I use this thing for hauling a bunch of different stuff. About what can i expect as far as cargo area load capability before having to get suspension mods?

I'd like more power. If i installed the TRD supercharger would I significantly decrease my engine lifespan? Is there a reliable turbocharger option?

I know the brush guard is a damage multiplier but is it possible to install a ARB/similar winch-bumper behind the brush guard? (it looks like there would be room.

Thanks and :flipoff2:

Check your vehicle capacity plate but I think you can carry about 900lbs of people and gear in an 80. Whether that meets your needs or the handling is unacceptable is something only you can decide.

Brush guard and an ARB? Hmm. I think you're missing an opportunity there. Since you'd already have a laughable looking vehicle at that point, you'd be best to capitalize on it and go all the way by also adding a bug deflector and behind that a 3M Clear Bra to have the mostest, bestest protected 80 front end on the planet. (snicker).

As for the rest, use the search function and read, grasshopper.....

As far as getting more power goes, the supercharger should not lessen the life span of the engine, as long as the rest of the vehicle is in tip-top shape, especially, but not limited to, the cooling system.

And for "reliable" turbo options, Australian-made Safari kit used to be available in the US and was a pretty good system, with intercooler and all. MAF(Man-A-Fre in CA) was (is?) working on their own system, as well as maybe Slee Off Road (AVO or in-house stuff; in CO). But don't quote me on this.:D

Good luck with it all and have fun!

i see dead people. . . . . i mean code. :(

What mud? I don't see any mud. ;)

Looks nice, but that sucks about the hood scoop. Looks like they took it off a 4Runner, and it doesn't fit right on an 80.

i actuelly sorta like the hood scoop

Yeah the scoop is definitely a love it/hate it thing. And I DO get tired of answering stupid questions about it. (and having punks revving their civics at the light trying to race me) That said it's real easy to find in a parking lot etc and is at least a little different than others i've seen.
