This is my first 40th anniversary and the leather components of all four door panels is not clear to me. I am pretty certain the PO changed some of the coverings. All four door panels are the same makeup, but as an example, the first attached photo is the right rear door panel. I have labeled three areas, A, B, and C.

Areas A & C are 100% vinyl. The second attached photo shows the reverse of Area B. It looks like synthetic leather to me, but I am not a leather expert.

Am I correct that things are not correct here?

Looks similar to mine... what is it that looks off?

Maybe nothing is off. I just don't know what parts of the door came as leather and what parts came as vinyl. Possibly Section-B is the only actual leather component in the door panels. The other thing I noticed is that the texture of the back of the Section-B material is perfect, with zero variation. I thought real leather always has some small variance here and there.

Looks normal to me. It’s probably pleather.

But, isn't it supposed to be real leather in the 40th?
If memory serves, no. The door panels weren’t special/unique for the 40th Anniversary trucks. They were the same color scheme and materials as any other 1997 with oak interior. The 2-tone seats were (port installed) to match the door trim on this US-specific trim level.

Ok fine. But was real natural leather used in "leather" versions of the OEM oak leather interior? If yes, which of the three sections A, B, or C, in my photo was real natural leather used?

My best guess, is that the dark brown (A & C) is vinyl, and the oak (B) is leather.

I’m pretty sure it’s the same with the seats.

I will check the seats tomorrow, but in my photo showing the reverse of B, does that look like real leather? It seems too uniform for real leather to me, but I am definitely not sure about that.

When in doubt, I tag @cruiserdan

If anyone knows for sure...

2-tone sest covers were NOT port installed.

The light center section of the door panels is leather.

So, that confirms the only leather component in the door panels is the lighter central area. One final question.

Could that leather be artificial? I now feel confident my door panels are original, but I did one of the simple "leather" tests and the result was consistent with artificial leather, not real natural leather.

That information has never been published. On my 1993 that section sure looks like leather to me.
