Replacing Voltage Regulator

Yeah, I had a mechanic put a meter to it and he said the voltage was high (17.02 at peak) but that the amperage was low. He didn't give me a number on that but said it didn't appear to be boiling the battery. But the VR is broken and unreplaceable now so I won't do anymore damage to it...It'll be replaced next time I fire it up. From my parts store, the VR was $60 and the alt was $90-$108 but the guy that sold me the truck is going to send a VR or an alt...whatever he has on hand, so we are going to go that route first. All said and done, if I have to replace the whole alt. it won't be that bad.

It's prolly just the VR, but replacing the alt for only a bit more doesn't sound like a bad deal. Funny how those dang screws get so stuck into the flimsy plastic backer. Kinda un-toyota like.

Not sure where you are located but here there is a shop that rebuilds starters and alternators, they rebuilt a starter for my loader for $80 where a new one would be in the $250 to $300 range
