So I had a strange engine noise and decided its the fan bracket pulley in the front of the engine.

Has the doorman replacement been reliable ? Or should I wait to get one from toyota ?

Are there any how to replace walk through to remove and replace ? does the Radiator have to be removed ?

timing belt / water pump have 50K on them should I do everything now ? or is it worth just doing the pulley bracket ?

thanks for the help

I got the aisin one on amazon. The casting doesn't look as clean an any of the oem parts I've seen from aisin so I suspect the toyota units have better qc or maybe even finishing work(media blasting?)

I removed the radiator for more space. The timing belt and water pump isn't much but thats for you to decide since you'll be doing the work in the future. I didn't on mine since I don't put many miles on it. I'll do another tbelt in 10 years.

What was the noise? Mine is making a weird sound too.

The best way to describe it would be taking a rubber mallet and rhythmicly bang around a can almost full of rubber balls. No real matalic rattling.

It started off hearing it off and on when I would do a drive though at a fast food joint it was not always there and sometimes it comes and goes. At the end it was constant and I dont think it would have made another 100 miles before it broke off and went through the radiator.

If you grab the fan where it bolts to the bracket not the clutch but where the 4 nuts and bolts are and tug up and down side to side it should not move much if any. I could move it a good 1/8" in all directions before the change. Also look for metal shavings in the skid plate or under the fan

and I will add if you are remotely close to needing a timeing belt plan to do it at the same time. You are over 1/2 to it when you get the bracket off. And I think its the easy 1/2 thats left to do lol.

Thanks scubajohn, that does not sound like my noise. Mine is a hooting noise at around 1800-2200 rpm. Seriously, sounds just like an owl. Maybe I will start a new thread since search hasn't helped me.

Did you end up going with OEM or the Dorman bracket. I just replaced my TB and water pump but was told that I need to replace my fan pulley bracket too.

Most here will recommend OEM or Aisin parts since they are correct manufacturer.
