So, I've had these tires since July 2021. I found a gash in the sidewall the other day and I took the truck to Discount tire (too close to quitting time I think).
They "verified tread" and only replaced the rear passenger tire...I'm suspicious that this isn't going to cause issues. I was fully anticipating at least two new tires...
Anyone have the same experience?

Highly unlikely it will cause issues. It is more of an issue with full time AWD vehicles because they tend to use viscous LSD, and the imbalance can burn them up.

I'm assuming you have the stock sized 20's on your truck. If so, those tires you have when brand new have a 31.8" diameter and are making 634 revolutions per mile. If they were worn down past the wear bars so they're completely bald, they'd be at 30.8" diameter and would turn 654 revs per mile. That's a 20 RPM difference at 60 MPH. I don't know what the tread depth is/was on the worn tire, but it's safe to say that you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

To quantify that with some anecdotal evidence, I drove almost 200 miles home at 70ish MPH once on the OEM 265/65-17 sized spare on the rear... and the other three were 315/75-16s. That's a difference of 77 revs per mile. When I got home I figured I'd give it a look out of curiosity, so I drained the fluid in the diff, no glitter, threw a borescope in there and saw absolutely zero area of concern. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again if the situation arose. Diffs and viscous couplers have the problem when one tire is stopped and you're hammer down spinning the other one showing 40 MPH on the speedo.

Needing to buy all four on an AWD vehicle is just a tire shop trying to make more money.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I swapped the new tire to the front passenger side and am not seeing any difference. If anything, the front one will wear faster with turns.
