I’ve done some searching, but haven’t found a definitive answer. I was really dumb and didn’t get a full size spare when I got my tires put on. They were only meant to be temporary and so I figured I’d just use them until I went up a size. Well, the inevitable happened and I have a chunk of metal in one of the shoulder lugs. It may not have actually punctured it, but I’m not going to pull it out to see. Of course this is after having to spend money on other things so a full set of tires is out until next month. Worst case scenario I’ll have to replace the tire. Has anyone replaced only one tire before? I’ve heard it can be done and that it can’t. The tires that are on it aren’t very worn. They’re probably all 10-12/32s and I believe they were 16/32s new. It’s just not in the cards to buy the full set of bigger tires at the moment unless I sell some stuff that I really don’t want to sell.

You can always hit up CL/OfferUp/FBMarketplace to get either a single matching (long shot), or a set of OEM takeoffs from a Tacoma/GX/4Runner for cheap. What size are you running?

275/70r17 so they’re not the easiest to find.

not sure about your area, but I just put on 275/70/17's, and they run 250, plus install and certs. Over 300 out the door for one. You can get a set of 4 installed, mounted balanced, with wheel 4runner takeoff for less than $500 asking around here in 265/70/17. One size smaller tires for a month? Sell 'em when you're done...

Find a used tire close in size, some local tire shop might give you one for cheap, even mount if for you. The rim diameter is the only critiera you absolutely must maintain, so it fits on the rim you have now. Yea, it may handle SLIGHTLY differently. I would not recommend running the Indy 500 without correct tires. Remember, lots of cars come with the funky donut spare tire.

I found a set just like he mentioned. only had 100 miles on them.

Then don't worry about it. Once I found a nice used tire, or two, I would pull the piece of metal out. Maybe it's nothing.

Just so there’s no confusion, I’m planning on replacing it with the same tire, but new. I’m not going to replace it with a smaller size. I’d rather break out my stock wheels and tires and roll on those for a few weeks. I’m going to take it in tomorrow for the rotation I was planning to do next weekend and see what they say when they examine it. It may be far enough off of the sidewall to be plugged.

Oh, if you've got the stockers, you're golden. Dorky, but golden...

Tire Rack will shave a single tire down for you to match your other tires (assuming they have it in stock).

You can have the shaved tire shipped to your house and mounted by a local tire shop. This is probably the cheapest/easiest route when you ruin one tire on an AWD vehicle.

Went to get it checked out this morning and it was a chunk of pallet staples, but luckily they didn’t puncture the tire. I’m ordering new tires Monday since discount is going to give me credit for my current tires towards a new set. Just have to decide if I want 285/70 or 285/75.

If you're only waiting on a month or two before getting the tires you really want, just go to a tire store and have the tire plugged!
As long as the puncture isn't on the side wall, which from your description is on the corner of the tire, you should be fine.
Tire plugs can last almost the life of a tire. Or you can use a self inflating tire sealant. Somewhere on one of our little off road events I did a very small puncture on one of my tires. The leak was very slow, needed to be refilled maybe every other week or so, but my tires were still a little over 50% used and have plenty of life left. I used some of that tire sealant and has worked great! Have not had to refill yet, and that's from airing down and airing back up several times from off road trips.

So, in short, I'd save the cost of a tire and put it towards your new set in another month or so and just have this patched.

I have no problem having tires patched and plugged. I’ve had it done many times. It was close enough to the sidewall that I wasn’t sure if it could even be done, but it wasn’t actually punctured so I’m on my way now to order a new set of tires.
