2001 Toyota Sequoia limited. After many years of replacing masts and motors, I’m done with it. I’d like to replace the motorized antenna with a fixed, either rubber or screw in metal “whip” antenna.

Today I went to replace the broken mast, again, and it was all catywampus up inside. I kinda reached my limit, so I cut the black antenna wire and the two green power wires, taped them off and decided to begin my search for answers here.

I don’t care too much about top notch reception as I use Bluetooth for most everything, but I need to get something in there. Ideally I’d have a rubber, “off road” type one. I’m u sure of how to connect the wires and proceed. I assume I’ll need to replace the black wire from the head unit out to the new antenna, but I can’t seem to find an antenna and wire that’ll work with the existing hole.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Go to a car stereo shop get parts and advice. I need to do the same as my long tundra antenna got eaten by the car wash or some tree branches while backing up.

I had the same issue and ended up disconnecting the extend/retract mast wire my front antenna (at the headunit side) and hooked up the rear window antenna and front antenna to my radio instead. I didn't notice a difference in signal quality, but I rarely listen to the radio anyway... All I needed was an adapter for the rear antenna plug and a Y-cable.

Adapter for rear antenna plug:
"Scosche MDAB 1988-05 GM Micro/Delco Antenna Adapter" (tip only) Amazon product ASIN B00009UHRI
Y-Cable:
"Metra 40-UV43 Male to Female Motorola Antenna Cable" Amazon product ASIN B0002EXF10

Awesome, thank you for the reply. I’ll look into that.

We had the same issue. We actually got a flexible antenna, connected it to the radio, and just laid in inside the dash. We got surprisingly decent reception. Nothing like an actual antenna outside the truck, but not horrible. Or at least better than no antenna at all...
