yeah there is a bearing at the botom of the tube.

on memory i think its a bit of a pita to remove

Bottom Stearing colum bearing. Not to hard to change. Remove the colum, near the top is a uni, removr the bolt, remove the 4 bolts that hold the top of the colum to the bottom tube. Gentle drive a chisle into the uni where you removed the bolt just enought to get the uni to slide off the sharft. You dont have to remove the stearing wheel or swiches, just the plastic covers. At the bottom where the bearing is, is a funny wire clip, remove it. The sharft and bearing can be pulled out of the bottom. The bearing has a plastic coting, it comes with the new one. If it wont come out heat the outside of the tube enough to melt the plastic bearing casing. DO NOT HIT THE TOP OF THE SHARFT AS IT IS A COLLAPSEABLE SHARFT WITH TWO SMALL NYLON PINE IN IT. Once you get it out there is a C clipto get the bearing off. Where the bearing sits in the colm it must be clean and greased for the bearing to slide in the bottom of the tube.. reassemblie is reverce. There a non genuine bearing for around $50.00 AUS. They are the same part as toyota. I have fitted about 15 of them over the year. i will find PN tommrow. hope this helps.

Upper bearing, never done one of them, I think they look a fairly common bearing, shouldnt be to hard. Check the two bolts on the side of the colum under the plastic cover. I have had them come loose and that lets the wheel move about. Cheers
