Both inner CV boots came open and spat their grease out.
My mechanic suggested replacing the Axel's. He is allowing me to source the parts. Any links for OEM? I am finding nothing but rabbit holes.

My driver side airbag is leaking so I will be swapping those also. I am just under 100k miles so now seems right to lift and replace the suspension.

Looking at this Ironman kit. Do I really need to add the full kit they offer to convert?

Any other suggestions in the area of 1-1/2" lift are also welcome.

Comments go back and forth on UCAs under a 2" lift. Any opinion there would be appreciated.

I am in Michigan and do not see much more than fire roads and two track state parks. Our paved roads are however much s***tier than where ever you are due to Frost laws.

Thank you

Have you checked eBay regarding OEM axles? I’ve seen many Toyota dealers selling them $450-500 rage.

Regarding the Ironman “kit” are you asking about purchasing the additional rear airbag delete conversion? If you are, the answer is yes you need it so the rear spring has a perch to sit in and won’t slip or pop out.

I have the Ironman FCP setup and opted to not go with UCA’s at the time. It wasn’t in my budget. My lift is about 2 1/2” possibly 3”. The business installing the setup recommended I should buy the UCA’s because the stock arm would hit the spring at full flex/droop. I’m about 2.5 degrees out of factory specs for my caster alignment but I do not notice anything different. I am also not rock crawling like yourself so try it without UCA’s. I haven’t had any problems yet. It’s a relatively easy install yourself if you do want them later on.

Is it the case that your cv clamp failed and allowed the area between the cv shaft and the cv boot to fling grease around or did the rubber on the cv break? I recently had my clamp fail to seat properly so some grease got flung around. A special pair of pliers from amazon and some new clamps sort that nicely and I no longer fling grease.

It is the narrow end of the boot that connects to the trans. I tried to apply more grease but it was too tight. I added a pipe clamp. Tighter now. Maybe they do not need replacing?

Ironman kit you linked to gives a 2-3” lift according to what I’m reading.
One of the reviews stated 1-1/2 to 2. I am looking in that range. If you have a good experience with another lift least that or equal to 2" I would like to check it out. I am not doing anything extreme.

Thanks

I am actually looking at something similar, 1-2” tops. I think Eibach is an option, good price too.

Can you post a picture where? I’m having a tough time determining where you mean

I could not get a great shot. Found an assembly drawing. It is the inner boot(not the Side that connects to the wheel). It is leaking out of the narrow end of the cone that wraps around the axel shaft.

It is not the boot that contains the CV joint.

Yup. Mine leaked at that exact same point.

those are the two exact products I purchased from amazon to fix it.
Thanks. I just picked those up. What grease did you use?

I probably should have used some grease but what I saw that was flung on the chassis and surrounding area didn't look to be too bad so I just replaced the clamp and went on my way. My go to grease is typically amsoil dominator but for the cv I would imagine the grease needs to have some moly in it. I'll research a bit and see what people recommend but I would think you should use whatever 100 series and 80 series people use on their front axles. I think that piece is called a birfield?

This is what I came up with. I don't want to remove the boot from the large end and risk dirt contamination. I just want to replace the bands. I plan to feed the tube from the syringe back to the CV joint and load her up! Then squish the boot around before reclamping the small diameter side to move the grease.

I will then go do some Sharp turns and flexes in a parking lot.

This will happen Sunday and I will report my results.

Sounds good to me. I would think if you unclamped the failed clamp and squirted grease in between the cv shaft and the boot that you would be in A-ok shape to re clamp.

CVJ offers reman OEM shafts, they seem to be well rated however I have heard the red high angle boots dont hold up well

I am running OME springs, bilstein 5100 shocks, and the SSO rear coil kit, it appears very similar to the ironman kit you linked. I have the same front lift on my tacoma plus a 1/4" top hat spacer on the drivers side and was able to align within spec with stock UCA's. I have a bent spindle on the GX and havent been able to get it in spec. It seems like its hit or miss depending on the specific vehicle on whether it will align without UCAs or not.
