Was unsure if to add photo's to last message, but decided to add a new one in case of a search fir a fix.

I made up a tight U bend by welding two bends together to make a really tight bend.

I would advise anyone that has rusted pipes above the cat, to change them ASAP I was lucky, mine burst at the same time I pulled off the highway/motorway, if I had carried on I would not have known until it was to late and then the head would have been trashed.

If anyone wants to do this easy mod, I can make and supply all that is needed to do the job for $23 inc shipping to anywhere in the world, I live in England so that basically covers the shipping costs.

You will get in the kit.

The tight U bend
six stainless steel 22mm Jubilee clips (which are the most expensive clips you can get)
Two short Gates rubber hoses

This is not a money making venture I can assure you, all these parts and shipping add up to the $23 I just don't want anyone else having the trouble I did, I had to have my car towed back home!

I found it really easy just to lay under the car and saw through the pipes with a junior hacksaw, I was quite suprised how easy it was, then cut through the short rubber hoses with a stanley knife and kept bending the clip bracket till it broke off, from start to finish it can be done in about 90 mins and thats taking it easy, also because it's the heater pipes and fed from the top of the engine, you don't have to drain much coolant, just cut the bottom hose near the rusted pipes and let it drain into a container till its stops, about 3 pints.

Are there any other hoses that go like this on the 80 ?

nice work!

One question; why is there a need for a metal u pipe? Can you not just replace with a u hose?

Curious... This creates a loop back on the line back to the rear heater...right? Why not loop it in the engine compartment instead?

I couldnt quite see where you loop the pipes together in the engine compartment, so opted for the cut and loop under the car, I also thought later on in the year before winter, it would be easy to make up some copper or steel pipes and re join the rear heater back in.

I used 15mm gates hose.
