I intend to remove the unleaded restrictor plate from the fuel fill neck of the 60. I did this way back when with the 40. The 40 was easy - a few light whacks on the plate with a flat punch and hammer and the spot welds popped loose.

Tried the same technique with the 60 and no joy. I'm banging on it hard enough that I'm on the verge of damaging it.

Plan 'B' is to drill thru the spot welds first then knock it loose.

Plan B leaves a fill neck with three 3/16" holes. I do not weld so my first thought was to use JB Weld or some such to glue a strip of thin shim stock over the holes.

Anybody have another method?

Can a good welder seal up a 3/16" or so hole in sheet metal like this?

Thanks

Jim

Remove it and drilling it out with a hole saw works. But all the gasoline nozzles nowadays fit the restrictor. No more leaded fuel since about 1990.

So a Scepter military fuel can nozzle will fit.

I do not want to use one of those homemade plumbers nightmare type fuel can nozzles.

Jerry cans nozzles do not fit.

Tilting Jerry Cans into the truck is so 1980's. Welcome to 2017! :)

Why am I not surprised there is such a gadget?

Whatever happened to what we used to call an "Arkansas credit card".....4 feet of garden hose a suck? Heck, you don't even have to worry about lead poisoning anymore.

Seriously, I'm working on de-gadgeting the 60. With the two of us plus camp gear, water and food its pushing 6,000 lb. That gets real noticeable in the mountains.

I have USGI Scepter fuel and water cans. I even have the unobtanium GI "donkey d***" fuel can nozzle. It cost me $3,025 on a govt auction but it came wrapped in an '85 M1009 CUCV.

On my diesel swap, I drilled mine out and welded the holes, then replated the filler pipe. Likely, JB would work fine.

A $12 siphon hose works great (provided you not on a rush), and takes little to no space for this task.

I removed mine when converting to diesel. Thought I could tap it free and brake free the spot welds but it broke the welds, so removed and welded the holes and put back.
