Removing Side View Mirror Glass

Final getting around to blacking out the 62. Side View mirrors are in bad shape anyway. The chrome is peeling away from the housing. I want to paint the entire visable portion of the mirror and can not figure out how to remove the actual mirror from the housing itself. Is it possible to remove the glass without breaking it and enduring the many years of bad luck. Thanks

Seriously, I don't think you'll find a way to release the adhesive.

a lot of pressure, and a philips head scredriver that you have to make sure wont slip out of the screw and strip it, worked good for me

Glass is glued in, might be able to take it real easy with a putty knife. Local shop charged me $15 to replace the drivers side glass, but couldn't do the convex passenger side. ymmv.

Doesnt anyone know how to disassemble the mirror housing??? If not any suggestions on how to effectively paint the whole thing?

masking tape would be my solution. mask anything you don't want painted and go for it.

Again, the glass is glued into a cradle. In order to disassemble the section behind the mirror you'll need to get the glass out. Try using a putty knife to get between the glass and the cradle and work it loose.
