I've been painstakingly removing the headliner from my 2000 LX470 in search of a really bad roof leak. I'm down to the last item to remove, the rear cooler control and I the bezel around the controller just trying to get it to budge. Anyone have experience removing it? It appears they may be a metal sleeve in the headliner, but I can't be sure. I got the unit to move about 1/8" but then the bezel trim cracked. It's always the last piece that's a PITA. The FSM is no help at all. No diagram or detail, only "REMOVE THESE PARTS: Rear Cooler Control Assembly"

Mine did the same. Sad to say once it broke I just went ahead and kept going and slowly got it out. Now Im buying a used replacement. Sorry I can't help more but I never found a trick besides go slow and it does slide out. Then there are a few screws holding the outer metal sleeve to roof cross member.

Thanks for the quick response. I agree, I'm just going to move forward and then look for a used replacement. But I'm still surprised this part was so difficult to remove. There is such a high level of engineering you don't find many parts that can't be removed without damage. Oh well, I'm moving on to the bigger issue...leaky roof.

Just was able to grab a pic of this weekend so wanted to save for posterity to this thread. The control sits in a metal box. Press up around the edge of the headliner that sits around the control, then with a wide, flat trim tool, try to work to tool between plastic of control and the box frame. You will likely have to go around the edge a few times to get it to slide out.
