Most of the threads that I've already read talk about installing. I know I'm not the smartest guy here, but my concern is with the plastic boot. I know they are pried off, but how much pressure and from what side of the plastic boot do you pry? I'm trying to save them, as I already have someone who wants to buy the rack. And when I pry the plastic boots off, I'm assuming there will be a pop sound when it releases?

Lastly, do cross bars need to come off first?

Check out my thread. Lots of pics.

Cross bars do not need to come off first. The whole rack comes off as one piece.

I would not worry about breaking them , there are plenty of guys on here that have extras.... I have a clear picture of the front on my build thread so you can see where the clips are. Good luck , take pictures...

You pull on the plastic covers on the 4 corners of the rack at about a 45 degree angle...i.e., about halfway between straight up and straight to the side. You may find that the covers have a steel spring retainer on either or both of the mounting posts inside. If you're reinstalling the rack, the spring retainers need to be removed from the covers and reinstalled in the rack corner braces before re-installation.
