Hi all,

First post here. Thanks in advance for any help given.

I'm trying to remove floor covering so i can access the transfer case linkage from above. To get the floor covering out I need to remove the lower part of the dash - the part with the ashtray - but I can't work out how to do it. Does anyone know how to do this?

Hopefully the photos have uploaded and you can see how the ashtray part of the dash goes over the top of the vinyl, which i want to remove.

Cheers

I should have mentioned mine is a 105 diesel from 2000.

Have you tried to pull the cup-holder compartment straight towards the shift levers? You can also open the gap between the main dash and the cupholder like trim and inspect what kind of clip is used.

Thanks for the reply nissanh. I have tried pulling the ashtray (not cupholder) out but i didn't pull too hard in case i was going to break something. I also opened the gap and toook a photo of what i think are the clips - see below.

ANyone got any idea what to do? Shall i just pull with more force, or is there a way to pop the clips?

- the first photo shows the view from the side
- second photo is looking up inside, taken on it's side. The left side of the photo is upwards. I think the yellow thing is a clip. There appear to be three of them. The screw holds the ashtay in place and the grey plastic thing (left side of photo) is the ciggie lighter socket.

Thanks

See the directions that you has to pull.

The yellow clip should pop right out. I think you should get the 3 yellow tabs out first and then lift the trim out in the direction shown.

You should slide one hand at the opening between the 5-speed shift lever and the trim/panel (in the post-1 picture) to pull it out the trim (parallel to the floor).

I am watching this thread in absolute envy of your 105,

Hope you get it apart ok bud. Looks like your going about it the correct way.

Nissanh: Thanks a lot for the advice and pictures. It looks as though i am not putting enough force into pulling. Fantastic to get some help here. I should be able to get some time soon to give it another go. I'll let you know how i get on.

Greenbean: Thanks. I love my 105 (and the places it takes me). Cheers!

OK.... i figured it out. The correct way to remove the ashtray panel is to first remove the panel with the 12v ciggie lighter sockets in them. They just pop out by shoving something flat down the side (i used a small screwdriver - pic 1). Then remove the two bolts (pic 2) and the ashtray panel just pulls out.

I can now get at the transfer lever to see if i can figure out why it won't budge!

Thanks to nissanh for trying to help. Although turns out the yellow clips have nothing to do with the ashtray panel.
