How to manuever front sway out??

Hey guys,

I can't believe I'm asking this but any tips on how to manuever the front sway out? I've undone the end connection bolts and brackets. Now the stock sway is just hanging there. It seems that no matter which way I move it it hits something. I still have the wheels on which might be a factor but the sway is catching before I even get to the wheels.

Ugg, tired....need....food...must...take....break.....

Oh well, I'll get back to it later. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction in the meantime. Well, at least the rear one is done and I have a bright orange sway back there now.

Cheers...

Need to remove at least one T Bar.

Doron.

Okay, good, I'm not loosing my mind. :) I've never dealt with Torsion Bars before. Is removing/reinstalling them a pain? Do I need to support anything? Or, can I just leave the truck on all 4 wheels and unbolt it without any hassle? I'm just wondering if I should be taking this to a professional or if I can do it in an hour.

Sorry, I'm sure these are dumb questions so if there's an FAQ or something that goes over the procedure online I'm all ears.

Thanks again for your help. VERY much appreciated. :)

Oh Boy!

DO NOT unbolt anything before you remove the weight of the wheel. Even after that the bar is under great tension. You have to understand how the T bar works before you attempt this. Do not hurt yourself or your truck.

Basically you have to have to back off the adjustment mechanism (opposite end from the wheel) until there is no more tension on the bar and then you unbolt it. It’s not unheard of that professional shops screw it up. I think they usually strip the fine treads of the adjustment bolts and I have heard that Toyota may not stock them.

Another issue, especially if you remove only one of the bars, is to balance the left and right once you install the bar back.

Be careful, Please.

Yeah, I just got home and opened up the Chilton book to read about the t bars (also looked under the truck to look at them again). Definitely over my head. Thanks for the heads up though. I'm definitely not going to mess with them. I'll suck it up and pay a pro. Hate to do it, but then again, much better than me attempting it without any experience with them.

Again, sorry for the newbie posts. The Chilton book didn't say anything about removing the t bars when removing/installing the front sway so I'm glad I asked. I felt like I was trying to solve a Rubic's cube upside down with the t bars still in place!

Anyway, thanks again Doron. Much appreciated.
