Does anyone have an idea of how to do this? My anti-glare coating has worn off about half of the screen, which leaves it looking like sh*t. I would much rather take it off the entire screen and just live with the glare rather than have the coating half on and half off. I figure it should not be that difficult to take off since it wears off on its own under the pressure of human touch and skin oils. Just need to know the right combination of chemicals to take it off without damaging the screen underneath.

Don't know if this will help, but once you get it removed buy one of those protective films off ebay for $14. I put one in my LC and so far so good. It protects it from scratches and is easy to clean. I'm not sure if there is an easy way to remove the anti-glare film.

I used a damp paper towel (no chemicals at all) while the nav system was off. It took it right off with some scrubbing. It didn't scratch it at all and it looks great now. The amount of glare I have to deal with is welcomed compared to how crappy it looked before.

I'm trying this with lint free cloth and distilled water - the coating is coming off but darned slowly. It does look much better though. I wish there was a chemical solution that could do the job quicker, but I would not want to try anything that would damage the screen. From what I read on a Lexus forum, the pre-03 470's have the same problem. For a $60,000 vehicle, Toyota could do much better!

one would think that the screen would be much more susceptible to damage without the protective coating (if that's what it is)...

and no dfference in touchscreen sensitivity?

It's not a protective coating as much as an anti-glare coating - and a poor one at that since it wears off rather easily over time. I understand this problem was corrected with the '03 navigation system, but I have yet to see an '02 or earlier on which the anti-reflective coating has not at least partially worn off.

I was in Pep Boys this afternoon and noticed that Meguiar's "Quik Interior Detailer Wipes" (product number G13600) was safe for use on navigation displays. I bought them,
and after about five minutes of wiping my fading, worn out anti-glare coating was gone - no more ugly purple splotches!!! The display is much brighter and clearer, and looks much better as well. Highly recommended.

Uhhhh... my screen looks just fine.

What you talking about Willis?

I'm more worried about scratches on the rig...

I removed mine just using glass (sunglasses/Rx glasses not Windex) cleaning wipes from Costco. It all came out in 5 minutes of gentle rubbing. Used may be three wipes.
