So I've read a number of threads which said that remanufactured power steering pumps don't last long. I'm wondering if these are remanufactured stock pumps or the kind one buys at Napa or other parts stores. Having seen how pristine the inside of my stock power steering pump was after 20 years, and how simple the rebuild process is (replacing some gaskets, though I did manage to screw up the reassembly), I don't see why the rebuilt stock pumps wouldn't last a long time.

Thanks!

The rebuild stuff is only seals. The tolerances in the parts that actually mater cannot be changed. Trust me, I went down this road years ago. Buy a new Toyota pump or go Saginaw.

OK, I'll get a new one. Just needed a little extra push before coughing up the dough. Cruiserdan got me one for $372, which is a chunk but quite a bit cheaper than anywhere else I checked.

Now what should I do with my old pump? Seems like a waste to just chuck it.

Trust me, buy a new OEM pump! The reman pump will not last! I just hope Toyota does not stop making our PS Pump, as the reman pumps are usually terrible. I think I had at least 5 or 6 reman pumps in my truck until I finally went with a new OEM pump.

Yeah, I'm really not looking forward to the day Toyota stops making parts. It was a bit of a nightmare trying to get a remanufactured smog pump (since that is now out of production). Took two venders, one returned pump, and over two months to finally get the right one.

This will unfortunately begin to be the norm for all of our vehicles some day soon down the line.

It's inevitable.

Saginaw is a good solution, you get more boost at 1/4 the cost and replacements are dirt cheap and readily available if you ever need one.

That's good to know. Is more boost safe for all the other parts of the system? From what I understand the stock pump already puts out a lot of pressure. Then again everything seems overbuilt in these trucks.
