Religious experience

Call it devine intervention, or a religious experience, I actually worked on the 40 this past sunday! After taking a few days to clean the shop and get some work stuff out of there (waiting on parts) The shop is cleaner than when we moved in 2 years ago!

I figured before I painted the 40 it would be a good idea to get started on welding the cage up. That way I wouldnt have to cry about burning through the brand new paint on the truck.

Got the required interriour parts out of the barn and threw them in the right spots, then started tacking away. Got pretty far on the Metaltech cage till I couldnt rember how it went together (ordered it like a year ago) and had to stop. With the rain showing up today I should be able to get a couple more notches cut and the rest tacked up this afternoon and maybe some cleanup and finish welding done.

Looks good Pat. Since you it looks like a low rider are you going to chrome said roll bar?

Nice progress Pat! What's the build plan look like?

Build plan? HA! How about finish it this century!?!
seriously though,I want to get the cage in and finish welded, mount for my powertank, check clearance on soft top bows and then get to painting the body and cage.

All the low rider jokes can go to hell. You know your project is sitting around a long time when your worried about the raidial tires flatspotting and the sidewalls cracking where the rim is tearing into them!

I dont need any parts, the drive shafts I got from you over a year ago just got pulled in off the garage apron.

I cant remember how much the freight was on the cage, it was a couple bucks (everything is expensive to ship to the sandbar) I saved a couple bucks by having it shipped to a buddy's shop though. They have a rate calculated via truck if you call MT.

Heres a couple more for you jackals to feast over...

This tube placement look like I have clearance for a hard top? Trying not to screw myself...

Front is all tacked up

Sweet fit! I was so pyched to have this fit so awsome, lat model hard doors open, close and latch without bumping into the tube, its a full finger width off the dash pad too!

Nice seat covers! Custom?

Anybody get me a measurement or a definite answer as to if soft/hard top will fit over this thing? Because of the floor and the tub being Kustom I am concerned that its sitting too high. The MT guys are saying that all tops should fit over their cages no problem.

That red door jam piece is a chunk of hard top that I had planed on using as patch panels for my bows. It makes a good reference point though.

I can take some measurements when I get home... I haven't put a soft top on but my hard top fits great... maybe .5" clearance. Top is off right now but I can get you measurements.... what do you think would be the best reference point?

same response in the main board...

48 1/4 to top of windshield, 49 1/4 to top of cage, about 3" from top of door to top of cage

So I finished the fab on my cage last night. I think Ill call it the Randy Jackson cage.
Jackson, because thats what MT calls this kit.
Randy for the double tube main hoop from YT's own 82Cruzer.

After the majority of a Growler my hand wasnt too steady so I figured I would save the finish welding for tonight. After that Ill get a buddy to pull it out, paint it and then put it in my already stuffed barn, and its onto the main body work!

Really nice work....glad to see you finding the time and making the progress.....

When I tacked up my cage last spring, I spent some time putting in gussets in the rear. I put triangular gussets with holes in them, thinking that they would also make for good tie down spots down the road. You can make out their placement in the photos posted here: IH8MUD.com - View Single Post - VTcruiser60's Spring Build--Much to do...

I am pretty sure I have half a dozen of the small ones left if you want me to ship you them.

Thats funny, I added a couple of the gussets in almost the same places, cant really see em in the pictures. You get them from bluetorch? I have a few more taht I may pop a 1/2in hole through and put them in the back corners. I also got some of the sweet bottle shaped/opener ones for between the Apillar and upper cross bar
