Typical recovery shackles you see in 4x4 scenarios are rated to 4 3/4 ton, or 9,500 lbs. The shackles in your kit are rated to 13,500 lbs, which is the next size up. The shackle pin may not fit in the standard recovery points offered by aftermarket bumper mfrs. The 20,000 lb kit aligns with what supporters of our habit provide:

I guess I get concerned about its origin: China. It's hard to tell from the pics, but I'm betting the quality is lacking. Three items are critical: the shackles, the strap, and the snatch block. With shackles it can be hard to tell quality, but the quality of good American made Crosby or CM shackles cannot be argued. There's enough pictures on this forum of broken snatch straps from reputable companies that I would be suspect of anything from China, and reputable snatch blocks will be easier to operate, provide longer service life, and have better handling than what I imagine is in that kit.

So you might consider exchanging that kit for the 20,000 lb kit. Or you might consider returning it and supporting one of our supporting vendors. That way you get expert advice and you don't have to ask the opinions of a hack like me ;)

I was going to buy this kit but a buddy bought me a rope for helping him do some work on his Cruiser. The rope is the only way to go for pulling someone out of a spot.

Off-Road Recovery Kits : Expanded Non-winch Recovery Kit | Southeast Overland

20' recovery rope is too short in my opinion. Could end up sling shotting one truck into another.
Rope vs snatch strap is not a competition, if both are built by reputable manufacturers they are of equal
value. Shop around. Please don't think I'm putting down Southeast Overland ropes, they are
the very best quality. I'd have one if they were closer to home for me.

yea the straight pin doesn't fit but i can slide the U part of the shackle into the recovery point. Not sure if that's the right way though.

I may have to change kits and figure something out. any and all advice is welcome!

thanks

Be aware that "Recovery Strap" as seen in these kits and "Snatch Strap" are not interchangeable. A recovery strap has minimal stretch and should not be used to jerk the stuck vehicle out. A snatch strap will have a minimum of 20% stretch, whereas a recovery strap will be closer to 10-12%. Think of a recovery strap as a winch extension, tow strap, etc. They are not meant to be shock loaded.

I have never had an issue with a 20' strap trying to slingshot another truck into me and I have been on both ends a lot. There is always a driver in the other vehicle controlling it. When I needed more I hooked up a 4" tow strap rated at 40,000 lbs to get me another 20'. The Snatch strap/rope is the only way to go to extract someone unless you are doing a dead pull. You can transmit more energy to the stuck vehicle without the shock on either. I don't care what brand you pick, I just like their prices over bubba rope and their quality over smittybuilt.
