I run the Yokohama Geolander Series on my 2002 LC and 2006 LX470 with great results. The 470 is my daily driver with 190K miles-does 80 mph all day long with the Geolanders-this is my second set on this car.

Which Geolandar?

I'm currently rocking General Grabber HTS and I like them. I have about 8k on them and they still look new and are running quiet. They are very similar to the yokohama geolander h/t. Although I think the generals might be discontinued you might be able to find some online. I would not recommend anything from Falken as I have found their lt and passenger tires don't last their rated mileage rating.

I bought the Cooper AT/3 due to this article from Expedition Portal:

Where the Rubber Meets the Road

I love the tires and they are great on the highway as well as off road. If I had to do it over again and I was willing to spend more money, I'd be very tempted to get the Cooper ST Maxx, mostly because I think they look bad ass :)

The runout problem was obvious looking at the tires on the balancer. Wheels not the problem. Tire seller saw it too, offered to put my old tires back on when he saw it.

I've always had this problem with these particular Michelins in this size. This is just worse than previous. I've had good Michelins, and others like this model/size that were not so good, with respect to runout and force variation problems.

I recently had 4 new LTX M/S 2 tires mounted up and balanced using the normal method. After a few weeks had them road force balanced using the Hunter 9700. [Note: was told new tires shouldn't be road force balanced - need to be driven some to eliminate any flat spots from sitting on the shelf]. Two came within spec, one was slightly outside the recommended range and one was way out. The two bad tires were both due to excessive runout (out of round). The dealer told me he has been seeing a lot more problems from Michelin lately.

Just to update my experience with the cooper at3's. I have had a alignment redone and have reduced the tire pressures, this has transformed the way the tire has performed to me. Very happy with them now. I didnt want my previous comment to put anyone off as it was a setup issue. These tires must have a stiffer sidewall than my previous set.

+1 for the Cooper Discoverer AT3. I put them on my hundy last September. I drove from TX to CO and back in Dec in some horrendous weather....deep snow, slush, driving rain, windy. Cars and trucks were all over the place around me and many in ditches. The AT3 held the line so well. I was very impressed. I bought them after reading the article rating them a best choice in Overland Magazine who did some real world testing. I've been impressed. Good road manners and awesome foul weather performance. I've not had them in the mud but had them in Houston floods and deep Colorado snow and they've been the best tire I've owned. I just had them rotated and balanced and the tech said they had zero wear after 12,000 miles. He said based on that, they will easily get 70K.

What tire pressure are you using now? I'm at 38 all around.

I have dropped back to 34, the tire fitter put 42 in which I didn't really like. At 34 and ahc set to soft it feels like driving on a cloud again, I turn it to sport on the highway to stiffen it up. I will keep an eye on wear and fine tune it if needed. For the pot holed roads I drive on it makes the ride more compliant.
