Hi Guys,

The clear coat has failed on most of the panels on my 80. I was wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a relatively cheap paint shop in north county that could do a decent respray. I would strip all the trim, flares bumper, lights, etc. myself. Would need two dents repaired and then a respray. Is there any chance I could get this done for ~$1,500 or less? What am I looking at realistically, I understand that paint jobs can be all over the place price wise. But for this rig I just want a 5 foot paint job, no runs, bubbles, minimal orange peel. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

I'll ask around. I know a buddy of mine a long while back saved a butt loafd of money on the paint job on his car by doing all you said, as well as fixing all his dings himself. Some filler (not Bondo, forget what it's called) a little bit of work with a hammer...turned out nice and something around $500.

That would be great, would appreciate any leads you come up with.

Been debating the Earl Scheib/MAACO route since I expect it is going to get pinstriped again at some point. Problem is you rarely run across someone who is happy with the MAACO job. Perhaps their expectations were too high to begin with? I will check them out, if you have a number handy that would be great. Open Saturdays?

I just got my 40 painted at the earl scheib on oceanside blvd., it is now owned by another name but the ES sign is still up there, only paid 550 and that included some body work, they did a decent job, happy with it.

Honestly, I had a Buick lesabre painted at that earl schieb off Oceanside blvd and it came out great for what I paid. I found a $350 managers special coupon online and got to pick from 30 or so colors. I ended up going with a gunmetal gray metallic. There was minor overspray on the rubber window gaskets and a bit on the taillights but I guess that's what 350 bucks gets you!

Resurrecting this thread! Have an 84 60 in factory brown that was repainted the same factory brown about 10 yrs ago. Needs a minor dent pulled out of the tailgate and some holes filled in the roof from an aftermarket rack I removed. Looking for a really nice paint job for this truck which is in fantastic shape and low miles (83k) for its age. Don't want to spend 10k but would consider spending 4-5 for the right person to do it right.

Who do you guys know in the North County who is doing a good job with paint?

had my toyota echo painted at earl scheib in sports arena area, they did a great job and it was reasonable. The maaco in oceanside is a rip off and the earl scheib paint job I had done went to hell very quickly. The echo paint job has been holding up nicely for a few years now. Looks brand new and I try to wax it every few months.
