Round trip is on a couple of miles, all paved. A road bike would be cool. They seem to require a lot less effort than other bikes. I've never ridden a road bike.

Suggest me some options. I could buy used. If so, what should I look for?

Budget is $500, + or - .

Not sure if this will fit you, but it is a good deal and in the right place.... offer them $400.

Specialized Allez Road Bike

The base model is about $750 or so new, I believe. It seems to be a pretty popular entry level road bike around here.

There's also a Specialized Sirrus on there that is more of a commuter bike, but I think the Allez is a much better deal.

The Allez is indeed a great choice for your riding situation. My tri-athlon partner got one as his first road bike and has done very well with it. Not to expensive and it will let you know if you like it and want to go more high tech in the future.

I've also had very good luck with Cannondale R400 and R800s. They are a simple entry level road bike that are very sturdy and accept upgrades well. You couldn't go wrong with either.

I'm surprised you didn't say Monocog!

The deer hunter's are shooting all over our trail system right now...:hillbilly: So, I've been riding (errr trying to, at least) with the road members of our club. I'd say at least 50% of the people on the rides are on an Allez... and the others are on Carbon Fiber Lance Armstrong spaceships..

Monocog's aren't for everyone... I recommend the d440 way more frequently than I do the MC. :flipoff2:

I found a Schwinn Traveler converted to single speed with new wheels/tires/tubes/chain for $300. I think I'll go back and give it a test ride to determine if I can deal with the single speed starting off and such.

It's always a sound financial decision to drop $300 bones on a 30 yr old bike that can be bought on ebay for less than $100.

I was going to talk him down to $297. :flipoff2:

I think I hope you are in the market for a bike when it is time for me to thin the herd.

Well goddamnit, how about helping a nigga out instead of bashing. I was going to check it out and offer $200 depending on its condition. How much would you say it's worth?

If the guy is asking $280 for it, I guarantee that he and I wouldn't arrive at a deal. I think his perspective on life is flawed, so it is irrelavent what I think it is worth. It's a 30 yr old bike... very much like our trucks.. they are worth what somebody is willing to pay for them.

As far as me helping you out, I posted a great deal on a Allez in your price range and told you where you could find a Specialized Sirrus for sale as well.

My price range dropped some. :)

Thanks for your previous help.

What would you give for that Allez? Is that a fair price?

You know I don't know s*** about bikes. I have a 32" inseam and some website told me I need a 54cm frame. That about right?
