new to site . just dropped recon 12 ht into 75 series ute . everything seems to be going as expected but wanted to hear others opinions on the initial start up. i believe i should pre oil the motor before its runs. is it possible to turn crank by hand to push oil through the galleries or will i need to inject oil under pressure just dont want to damage the motor at all as ive put a lot of time into her and would like to treat the old girl kindly. any help would be appreciated. great site . picked up so much info from here .

Another option to pressurizing the oil system is to flood the engine with oil.

This can be done in the vehicle just before initial start.

To use this method, fill the engine with fresh oil to at least the cam level in a non overhead cam engine. This will coat every part, especially if the oil is poured quickly into the valve cover so if floods the valve train, push rods and lifters.

Make sure the injectors and/or glow plugs are not installed, then turn the engine a couple of revolutions to coat all the parts. You can also just let it sit for a 20 minutes. The engine is pre-lubed and the oil pump is filled, ready to start.

Drain the excess oil out, which you can save and reuse. Install injectors and glow plugs, fire up engine.

Simple, easy and it works.

makes sense. i think i will give that a try . seems to me that method would be the most effective to . no doubt there would be an air pocket here and there but u cant argue with flooding the system
